Munster (PDO)
Like many cheeses, Munster or Munster Géromé was originally produced by monks, in fact, its name derives from the French word for monastery. Made from cow’s milk in Lorraine, it is sometimes called “Géromé’. Munster is also produced in Alsace. It is matured in damp cellars and washed every two days in brine. Although a cheeseboard would not be complete without it, Munster is also a versatile ingredient in quiches, omelettes or pies.
